the curtain's a sea anemone

one of my favorite places in san diego is the tide pools at cabrillo national park. so beautiful and fun. visiting always entails poking a million sea anemone with bits of sea weed, and this song inevitably runs through my head on repeat. the song itself is just awful and reminds me of sad boyfriends and long mixtapes, but is still somehow so good.

i finally attended a flyers game in which they won! i’ve been a ton of games over the years and they have always lost when i was there. even if they are on a red-hot winning streak – i show up and they lose. until now! they won! maybe somehow i am related to the billy penn curse and now that that is broken, i’m not bad luck anymore. this american life had another frightening show about the economy last week explaining what the heck is going on, similar to the giant pool of money episode. both are interesting (and scary) and helped me understand why my bank failed and all the rest of it.

and for some sunnier times, check out the show a little bit of knowledge. the prologue and act 1 are so good that i've retold them as if these people are my friends and i've heard these accounts straight from them. and i've caught other people doing the same!

orange you glad it's almost christmas?

heidi at my paper crane made these orange cinnamon rolls. we have these on christmas morning every year. we were the kids who had to pack hummus for school lunch WAY before it was a normal food, so i'm not sure how pilsbury pop rolls became a tradition, but i'm not arguing! we normally bake them on a sheet individually, but this regular cinnamon way looks way better. there is usually lots of icing left over and this way we can pile that stuff on bigtime!

PS: i'm sure that heidi's were totally homemade, she is cool like that. but still.

it seems like everyone i know is going through a hardcore 90s music phase. thinking about all the songs we loved as kids, this one popped up. i don't know who got us in to it, but my group of friends in high school was obsessed with this song. i don't even remember listening to any other 7seconds songs until way later when a boyfriend put "trust" on a mixtape (cute)...but this song- constant rotation. there are clips on youtube with better sound quality, but this one is my favorite. i love all the sweaty kids. they are so happy- singing along in pure bliss. do kids still act that way at shows? they have to, right? i went to an avail show in the fall and i didn't really feel this kind of energy. maybe that was because it was just a bunch of old heads complaining about the new school (have you heard goldfinger's crap version?), wishing they could sit down because their back hurt and being appalled that the show went past 11:30.

P.S. i didn't realize until 2 minutes in that kevin seconds is wearing the 'born to lose' bouncing souls shirt!

i like this show a little too much and there is absolutely no reason for it. it's remarkable how not at all remarkable the show actually is. but yet, i'm obsessed. like hanging out with a friend, oops we need to rush home and please stop talking it's on crazy about it. i've even analyzed these people to the point that i'm theorizing on their pizza preferences. it's over soon, thank god.
